A French Louis XV cherry buffet à deux-corps from the Loire Valley, eighteenth century. The molded cornice surmounts an upper cabinet with two carved doors opening to inner shelves. The break between the two parts is marked by a frieze of two dovetailed drawers fitted with Rococo hardware. The lower section presents two doors smaller in scale but carrying carved motifs that echo those above, creating a unified decorative program across both parts. The piece is raised on scrolled front feet and straight rear feet connected by a scalloped apron on three sides — the curved apron a quintessential feature of the Louis XV idiom. Cherry was the timber of choice in the Loire Valley and across central France for case furniture of this quality, its warm reddish-gold tone deepening over centuries to the characteristic amber of well-aged examples. 60"W × 27"D × 96.75"H.
