A French carved wooden carousel horse sculpture from the late 19th century, with dark paint, glass eyes, supporting bar and distressed appearance. Created in France during the last quarter of the 19th century, this carved wooden sculpture depicts a prancing horse secured to the ground thanks to a curving bar. The two back feet originally on the platform and two front feet up in the air, the horse is decorated evenly on both sides. Showcasing glass eyes, the horse boasts lots of rustic character and age with a good amount of wood coming through. Carousels such as the one this horse used to belong to, appeared in 1860 in Europe. With the arrival of steam engines, wooden figures replaced real horses. With its nice details, great history and handsome presence, this French carved wooden carousel horse from the late 19th century will make for a lovely decorative addition in any home perhaps placed in a child's room.
