A pair of French walnut communication doors, circa 1790. The doors are distinguished by gracefully arched tops over a composed arrangement of molded panels — a design at the intersection of Louis XVI restraint and early Directoire sensibility. Original wrought iron hardware throughout: decorative hinges with curved and floral motifs, a central latch, and an ornate escutcheon encircling the lock mechanism. The walnut surfaces have developed a rich, deep patina characteristic of well-maintained late eighteenth-century French joinery. Communication doors of this transitional period reflected the shift from Rococo elaboration toward neoclassical sobriety, making them among the most architecturally resolved examples of French domestic woodwork. Offered as a pair.
