18th century Swedish Gustavian secretary cabinet
An elegant late 18th century Swedish Gustavian secretary cabinet, handcrafted in pine and finished in a softly distressed original white paint with beautiful age and patina throughout. The arched cornice crowns a refined upper cabinet with paneled doors opening to spacious shelving, while the slant-front writing surface reveals an intricate fitted interior with numerous small drawers and compartments designed for correspondence and storage. The lower case features three generously scaled drawers adorned with original brass pulls and escutcheons. Raised on simple bracket feet, the restrained neoclassical lines and pale finish embody the timeless sophistication of the Gustavian period. Both sculptural and highly functional, this piece works equally well in a study, bedroom, or living space, bringing warmth, architectural presence, and authentic Scandinavian character to an interior.
