An elegant inlaid center table from the Charles X period, 1824 to 1830, made entirely of walnut and inlaid with rosewood. The shaped top, scalloped around its edge, is laid with radiating walnut veneer within a rosewood thread border, its center inlaid with a rosette enclosed by a double filet of contrasting line inlay. The top rests on a hexagonal molded vase-form pedestal rising from a shaped base, the whole supported on three double-volute feet. Charles X furniture is prized for exactly this play of light wood against dark line, and the table's compact round format suits a living room, entrance, or library corner beautifully. It stands sound, with wear consistent with age and use.
