A double-leaf connecting door in walnut, 18th century, each tall leaf carved with shaped raised panels in the Louis XV manner and retaining its original iron hardware. The walnut has aged to a deep, even tone, with the molded panels catching light across the full height of the leaves. Architectural elements of this quality are prized by designers as much for imagination as for restoration: hung as working doors between rooms, mounted as a headboard, fixed to a wall as paneling, or left freestanding as sculpture. Period doors with their original hardware intact are increasingly scarce, and a true double leaf offers symmetry that single doors cannot. Wear is consistent with age and long service.
