Made in the Netherlands around 1920, this small Dutch demi-lune console table is constructed in bleached oak and fitted with a tambour door. The demi-lune, or half-moon, form is designed to sit against a wall, and the tambour door, a flexible slatted shutter, conceals storage within the curved body. Bleached oak gives the table a pale, light surface, and the compact scale suits use in a hall, between windows, or against a wall in a sitting room. The combination of a console form with concealed tambour storage makes the table both decorative and practical. Its early twentieth-century date and bleached finish give it a restrained, transitional character that suits both period and plainer modern interiors. As a wall table it provides a surface for display or lighting while offering enclosed storage, and its modest proportions allow it to fit comfortably in tighter spaces.
