An authentic mid-20th-century French grape harvesting basket, handwoven in the Champagne region during the 1940s. This charming vineyard basket was once an essential tool during the grape harvest, designed to be both durable and lightweight for vineyard laborers gathering bunches of grapes.
Woven from willow, the basket features a wide, rounded form with a double-banded rim, reinforced side panels, and integrated handles. A distinctive green painted band wraps the upper section, a visual marker often used to identify vineyard ownership or designate harvesting crews. The natural aging of the material lends a soft, silvery patina, rich in character.
Please note: One handle has sustained minor damage but remains attached. The basket is otherwise structurally sound and stable, with wear consistent with its utilitarian past.
Perfect for rustic interiors, wine collectors, or farmhouse décor—use it to hold firewood, throws, or as a sculptural storage accent.
