Modeled in the neoclassical manner and made in England in the twentieth century, this pair of cast-stone garden urns stands on turned pedestals. Cast stone, a dense composite of aggregate and cement, became the predominant material for English garden ornament in the later twentieth century because it reproduced classical forms with considerable fidelity while withstanding the weather. The urns follow the grand campana or krater form of the neoclassical tradition, and the pedestals raise the composition to add architectural presence. Both urns and pedestals carry an established weathered patina, the surface colonised by lichen and moss in the manner of genuinely aged stonework, which lends the pair authenticity. The group is structurally sound throughout. Offered as a pair, the urns suit placement flanking an entrance, terrace steps, or a garden path, or as planted features within a formal garden scheme.
