An English turn-of-the-century glazed pottery bird bath, circa 1900. The octagonal top is concave on the interior to receive water, its border decorated with a rhythmic band of carved flowers. The octagonal form is carried through to the tapering pedestal below, creating a composed and harmonious silhouette that resolves on a stepped base. The neutral-toned glaze provides a unifying surface across the piece. The pottery has developed a weathered patina through outdoor use, with some loss to the carved detail consistent with its age and history. A graceful and genuinely functional garden ornament in the English horticultural tradition.
