An English fabric mill basket in woven wicker, circa 1900, with a hinged lid, leather straps, and the name Stevensons painted in bold black script across the face. Great work baskets like this carried cloth through the mills of the English north, and a century of service has given the willow its deep nut-brown tone and supple, well-handled surface. Few survive this complete, lettering and all. It serves beautifully as a log basket, a laundry or blanket store, or simply as sculpture atop a cupboard, anywhere a room wants a piece with a genuine working past. The weave is sound and the lid opens and closes properly, with wear consistent with age and long use.
