French 18th Century Cast Iron Horse Head Door Ornament with Iron Ring
A powerful relic of 18th-century French equestrian culture, this cast iron horse head was conceived as an architectural ornament for the façade of a grand château or maison de maître — perhaps a stable entrance, a garden gate, or a courtyard wall. Cast with remarkable sculptural fidelity, the horse's noble profile is rendered in extraordinary detail: an alert, expressive eye, flared nostrils, and a full, cascading mane that conveys both movement and majesty in solid iron.
