Dating to the eighteenth century and made in France, this Louis XVI chest of drawers is constructed in walnut and opens at the front with three drawers fitted with drop handles. A turquin marble top surmounts the case and follows the line of the rounded, fluted front and rear uprights, while the sides are built in two panels. The chest rests on four sheathed feet. The fluting and rounded angles are characteristic of the neoclassical style, giving the façade movement without heavy ornament. The grey-veined turquin marble contrasts with the warm walnut beneath. Well proportioned for a bedroom, hall, or living room, the chest offers generous drawer storage and a durable stone surface. The piece is supplied without a key, and an old restoration to the marble is visible in the photographs; the walnut and marble are otherwise consistent with the age of the chest.
