French 19th Century Biot Olive Jar
A nineteenth-century French Biot jar in terracotta, originally used for the storage of olives or oil. The jar presents the characteristic rounded profile of the Biot tradition, with a slightly flared lip and terracotta body distinguished by green glaze drips — the hallmark ornament of Provençal Biot pottery, applied as a decorative accent during the final stage of production. The surface has developed an aged patina through extensive use and natural weathering, giving the piece the warmth and honesty of a genuinely utilitarian object of long standing.
