A nineteenth-century French iron fireplace grill for hearth use. The circular grill body rests on petite feet that elevate it above the firebox floor, promoting airflow beneath the coals. A long handle extends from the body, reinforced by scrolling iron supports — a solution as much decorative as structural, characteristic of French ironwork of the period. The iron surface has developed a rich, dark patina through extensive hearth use over more than a century. Well-proportioned and finely wrought, this is a functional fireplace tool of genuine period character, suited to active use or to display as part of a hearth accessory arrangement.
