A large nineteenth-century French Anduze jar by Boisset, in dark brown and green drip glaze with raised relief swag decoration. Produced in Anduze, in the Gard department of southern France, the Boisset pottery was among the most celebrated manufacturers of the distinctive large-format glazed garden jars for which the town is renowned. This example presents a robust tapering body in dark brown and green drip glaze with warm ochre undertones, the surface draped with raised relief swag motifs in the characteristic Anduze fashion. A broad circular mouth crowns the form. A commanding presence for a garden terrace, entrance court, or formal interior.
