Made in France in the nineteenth century, this Louis XVI style side or bedside table is constructed in mahogany and mahogany veneer. The top opens to reveal a fitted compartment with a mirror, a practical feature that allowed the piece to serve as a dressing or toilet table as well as a side table. The neoclassical lines of the Louis XVI style are seen in the restrained form and tapering legs. Mahogany gives a warm, close-grained surface, and the fitted interior adds function to the compact form. Suited to use beside a bed, a chair, or a sofa, the table provides a surface and concealed storage in a bedroom or reception room. The fitted mirror compartment makes it particularly suited to a bedroom or dressing area, while the neat proportions allow it to work in a range of interiors as a versatile occasional table.
