Made in France in the nineteenth century, this Louis XVI style bench is built in carved and painted wood. The frame follows the neoclassical lines of the style, with carved detailing and a painted finish in keeping with French seat furniture of the period. The upholstery has been refurbished and covered in natural linen, leaving the bench ready for use. Its long, low form suits a variety of positions: at the foot of a bed, in an entrance hall, beneath a window, or as additional seating in a reception room. The painted carved frame gives the piece a decorative character, while the neutral linen keeps it adaptable to different settings. The combination of an aged painted surface with fresh upholstery balances period character with practicality, allowing the bench to work in both traditional interiors and plainer modern rooms as occasional seating.
