A French painted buffet, nineteenth century. The rectangular top with rounded front corners sits above a well-organized three-over-two façade: three drawers in the upper register and two paneled doors below, separated by a fluted vertical post, the doors opening to inner shelves. The piece is raised on four short feet connected at the front by a carved apron. The painted finish is in a soft tone and has developed a pleasingly distressed character through natural wear over the course of more than a century — the surface showing the honest weathering that distinguishes genuinely aged painted furniture from later imitations. The construction is solid throughout. A graceful and functional French provincial buffet, suited to a dining room, kitchen, or informal living room. 55.75"W × 21.75"D × 40.5"H.
