French Beech Os de Mouton Bench, Late 19th Century
A French beech bench in the os de mouton taste, late 19th century, an unusual and useful form in the celebrated Louis XIII style. At just over three feet wide with a tall 37.8-inch back, the bench offers the sculptural turned frame of os de mouton seating in a compact two-seat scale. Benches in this style are considerably rarer than chairs, making this a distinctive find for the end of a bed, an entrance hall, or a window bay. The turned beech frame shows warm color and crisp profiles, and provides handsome architecture for upholstery in a client's fabric. The frame is sturdy, with wear consistent with age and use throughout.
