A French early twentieth-century two-tier wrought iron planter with braided wire detailing. The hand-forged construction presents a sculptural yet functional form: a generously proportioned upper planting tub supported above a lower level by curved iron supports, the whole elevated on a base accented with a volute motif. Braided wire details animate the surface and add textural interest to the ironwork. The bottom of the upper tub is fitted with removable wooden boards — a period-typical provision for drainage and maintenance. The iron has developed a naturally aged patina consistent with a century of use. Suited to indoor display or a covered outdoor setting.
