A late 19th century Gustavian style sofa, Swedish, circa 1880, scraped to its original black paint and newly upholstered in linen. The back is composed of three oval medallions, a graceful and distinctive arrangement, flanked by open scrolled arms above turned, tapered legs. The scraped black surface has worn through in places to the wood beneath, the kind of honest, time-made finish that no reproduction can imitate, and it reads crisply against the fresh natural linen. At 68 inches wide it is an easy scale for a living room, entrance hall, or bedroom, offering real seating with sculptural presence. Ready for immediate use, with wear honestly consistent with its age.
