A seventeenth-century Lombard wardrobe from the Brescia-Bergamo region of northern Italy, crafted in solid walnut during the Louis XIV period. The two paneled doors are flanked by side pilasters and surmounted by a pronounced cornice, giving the piece an architectural character consistent with the Baroque aesthetic of the Lombard school. Deeply molded panels throughout impart visual weight and dimension. The carved bracket feet and molded base are well-proportioned to the substantial scale above. The dark walnut surfaces have developed a rich, deep patina over centuries of use, with original surfaces intact throughout. A monumental and structurally resolved example of seventeenth-century northern Italian cabinetmaking.
