An Italian walnut buffet, nineteenth century. The façade presents two drawers above two doors, the surfaces carved with a combination of diamond-point and floral motifs — a pairing that brings together the geometric boldness of the Italian Baroque tradition and the naturalistic ornament of the nineteenth-century regional workshops. One drawer is fitted with a partial interior partition, a practical detail suggesting the piece was made for a well-appointed household. The two doors open to inner shelves. Carved feet complete the lower section; the back is plainly constructed. The walnut has developed the deep, rich patina characteristic of well-aged Italian hardwood furniture, the carved motifs reading clearly against the darkened surface. A generously proportioned and well-crafted Italian provincial buffet. 63.25"W × 24.5"D × 41"H.
