Italian 20th Century Reconstituted Stone Garden Statue of a Child Holding a Basket of Fruit
Cast in reconstituted stone in Italy around 1920, this garden statue depicts a child holding a basket of fruit. Reconstituted stone, a composite of crushed aggregate and cement, was widely used for Italian garden statuary of the period because it reproduced the look of carved stone while standing up to outdoor exposure. The figure is modeled in the round, with the basket of fruit forming the decorative focus and the child's pose giving the piece a relaxed, naturalistic character.
