An Italian Directoire walnut nightstand, 18th century, with two drawers framed in contrasting banded veneer, oval brass pulls, and square tapered legs. The piece shows the Directoire gift for reduction: a clean rectangular case, quietly elegant proportions, and inlay used sparingly to outline rather than ornament. The walnut has mellowed over two centuries to a warm, even tone with genuine surface depth.
