Italian Louis Philippe Walnut Armoire, 19th Century
An Italian Louis Philippe walnut armoire, 19th century, with two tall paneled doors above a full-width lower drawer, raised on turned feet beneath a molded cornice. The Louis Philippe period prized clean lines and beautiful wood over ornament, and this armoire shows why the taste endures: the warm, striped figure of the walnut does all the decorative work across the broad door panels. At just under 79 inches tall and a shallow 16 inches deep, it offers real hanging and shelf storage without overwhelming a room, ideal for a bedroom, guest room, or entry in place of a closet. The doors close properly and the drawer runs well, with wear consistent with age and use.
