Italian Maria Theresa Six-Light Crystal Chandelier, 1950s
An Italian Maria Theresa style chandelier, mid-20th century, its six scrolling arms rising to candle lights dressed with cut-glass bobeches and faceted drops. The gilt metal frame is sheathed in the glass-clad cartouches that define the Maria Theresa form, laced throughout with swags of buttons and pendalogues that catch and scatter the light, and finished below with a faceted sphere. Chandeliers of this type were the glamour fixtures of postwar Italian interiors and remain reliable charmers over a dining table, in a bedroom, or in an entry. The chandelier is electrified, and the crystal dressing is generous and complete, with wear consistent with age and use.
