An Italian commode from the Veneto, second half of the 18th century, with a solid walnut structure and drawer fronts veneered in vividly figured walnut briar, following the traditional craftsmanship of the region. The three long drawers carry the swirling burl figure across the full front, framed in walnut banding and punctuated by small ring pulls and escutcheons beneath a crossbanded top, the case resting on shaped ogee bracket feet. The proportions are balanced and the lines clean, letting the extraordinary veneers do the decorative work, and the piece preserves a warm, well-kept antique patina. It anchors a bedroom, hallway, or living room wall handsomely. The drawers run properly, with wear consistent with age and use.
