Large Italian Cherry and Larch Sideboard, First Half 19th Century
A large Italian sideboard in cherry and larch, first half of the 19th century, stretching over seven and a half feet wide. Three paneled doors sit beneath three frieze drawers, providing exceptional storage and serving capacity, while the warm reddish glow of the cherry plays against the softer tone of the larch in the manner of northern Italian provincial furniture. The long, low proportions are exactly what dining rooms and open-plan spaces want: a single confident horizontal that anchors the wall, serves as a buffet, and swallows table linens, china, and barware behind its doors. The surface carries a mellow, well-kept patina. Solid and fully usable, with wear consistent with age and generations of service.
