A Lombard walnut armoire, 18th century, its two doors built of bold raised geometric panels beneath a deep molded cornice, with ornate pierced brass escutcheons marking the locks. The paneling carries the Louis XIV and Regence gravity that Lombard cabinetmakers rendered so confidently in warm, figured walnut, here mellowed to a deep amber glow. Raised on bracket feet, the armoire provides cavernous storage, ready for service in an entrance hall, bedroom, or dining room, or conversion to a bar or media cabinet. Furniture of this scale and surface anchors a room single-handedly. The doors close properly on their original hardware, with wear honestly consistent with age.
