Louis Philippe Flame Mahogany Vitrine, Second Half 19th Century
An Italian Louis Philippe vitrine in flame mahogany, second half of the 19th century, with a single glazed door above a lower drawer, crowned by a boldly molded cornice and raised on shaped feet. The shelved interior displays books, porcelain, or collections behind old glass, while the dramatic flame veneers surrounding the door give the case unusual richness for its restrained form. At a practical 41 inches wide and 80 inches tall it fits where larger bookcases cannot, bringing display, storage, and serious wood quality to a study, living room, or dining room in one compact footprint. The door and drawer operate properly, the veneers are in good order, and wear is consistent with age.
