A French Louis XVI style writing desk in mahogany and mahogany veneer, 20th century, at a usefully compact scale just over 39 inches wide. The top is lined in tan leather with gilt tooling, in very good condition, and two pull-out slides, also leather-lined, extend the work surface generously when needed. Two frieze drawers, each with a working lock and key, are dressed with fine brass moldings, and the four fluted, tapered legs finish in brass sabots. It is the ideal desk for a bedroom, sitting room, or smaller study, offering true Louis XVI elegance without the footprint of a full bureau plat, and it pairs beautifully with both antique and contemporary chairs. Wear is consistent with age and careful use.
