An Italian Louis XVI writing table in walnut and cherrywood marquetry, late 18th century, its top laid with radiating veneer within crossbanded borders, a quietly virtuosic surface that rewards close viewing. The banded frieze conceals a drawer, and the whole rises on square tapered legs of true period proportion. Marquetry writing tables of this date offer the rare combination of decorative surface and daily usefulness: a desk in a study or bedroom, a lamp table, or a refined side table in a living room.
