A pair of French Rococo Revival two-light giltwood sconces from the mid-19th century. This pair of French giltwood sconces was born in the years following the arrival of the Second Empire with Napoleon III as a ruler. Showing the renewal of the Rococo taste that had swept throughout Europe in the 18th century, each of these sconces features the curvy lines and controlled asymmetry that is typical of the style. Scrolls and foliage motifs intertwine with each other to create a sinuous gilded backplate, to which the arms are attached. The flower shaped bobeches support the electrified candle sleeves. Placed anywhere in a home, anchoring a credenza, console table or sofa, this pair of French 1850s Rococo Revival sconces will brighten up any space beautifully. They have been rewired for the US and are ready to be installed.
