Made in France in the twentieth century, this pair of Louis XVI style bedside tables is constructed in mahogany veneer, each opening with three drawers fitted with small knobs. The drawer fronts are decorated with brass moldings, and the tables are surmounted by white marble tops. The neoclassical lines of the Louis XVI style are seen in the restrained forms and tapering legs. Mahogany veneer gives a warm, figured surface, while the brass moldings and marble tops add definition and a durable serving surface. As a matched pair, the tables suit placement either side of a bed, providing symmetry and storage in a bedroom, or use as occasional tables flanking a sofa or chairs in a reception room. The three-drawer configuration offers practical storage, and the marble tops resist marking, making the pair both decorative and serviceable in daily use.
