A pair of French Louis XVI period bergères marquises chairs from the late 18th century, with wide seats, carved rosettes, fluted legs and floral upholstery. Each of this pair of armchairs, called marquises because of their wide seats and low backs, features a wooden structure perfectly complimented by a grey floral upholstery. The chairs are each made of a slightly slanted back topped with a curving rail and carved finials, flowing into the two full arms with fluted knuckles and supports. The chairs are upholstered with a floral fabric on grey ground in relatively good shape but nonetheless used condition, secured with a brass nailhead trim. They are raised on cylindrical tapering legs with fluted accents topped with carved rosettes on the front knees. With their Classical lines and nice patina, this pair of Louis XVI period bergères marquises circa 1790 will make for an elegant addition to any home, placed in a living room or bedroom.
