A handsome pair of Regency style demilune console tables in mahogany, the half-moon tops crossbanded in rosewood and satinwood so the figured centers are framed by contrasting ribbons of color. Each table stands on square tapered legs beneath a frieze finished with a neat checkered inlay line, the restrained silhouette that makes English console tables such reliable furnishers. Demilunes are the diplomats of a room: flanking a doorway or fireplace, standing either side of a hall, or pairing beneath mirrors where their flat backs sit tight to the wall. True pairs are considerably scarcer than singles and correspondingly prized by designers. Both tables stand sound, with wear consistent with age and use.
