A pair of Scandinavian breakfront chests of drawers in blue paint, circa 1920, an unusually architectural take on the matched chest. The breakfront form, with its projecting central section, gives each chest the modeled facade of a much grander case piece, accented by dentil molding beneath the top, a shaped apron, and pointed spade feet. The blue painted surfaces have worn softly at the edges, adding warmth and depth to the sculpted fronts. At a compact 31.5 inches wide, the pair is easy to place: flanking a bed, in a pair of alcoves, or symmetrically arranged in a hall, with practical drawer storage throughout. Breakfront pairs are a rare find in this scale. Sold as a pair, in sound condition with wear consistent with age.
