Pair of Swedish 20th Century Ribbon-Crested Mirrors
Made in Sweden around 1950, this pair of mirrors is designed with beaded borders and tied ribbon surmounts. The ribbon cresting at the top of each frame, modeled to resemble tied fabric, is a decorative motif drawn from neoclassical design and revived in Swedish work of the period. The beaded inner borders frame the plates and add fine detail around the glass. As a matched pair, the mirrors are intended to hang together, providing symmetry on a wall or flanking a doorway, window, or piece of furniture. Their modest scale suits placement above a pair of consoles or chests, or in a bedroom or dressing area.
