Pair of Swedish Rococo Chairs in Blue Paint, circa 1770
A pair of period Swedish Rococo chairs, circa 1770, in blue paint and newly covered in linen. The chairs carry the gently curved backs, shaped vase splats, and cabriole legs joined by turned stretchers that define the Swedish Rococo, the style's characteristic softness rendered with Scandinavian restraint. The blue paint has worn softly with age over the wood beneath, giving the pair the lived-in, historical presence that makes painted Swedish seating so easy to decorate with, while new linen upholstery means they are ready for immediate use.
