A period Gustavian sofa, Swedish, circa 1780, repainted in a soft blue and newly covered in natural linen. The straight, elegantly paneled back and fluted tapered legs carry the neoclassical restraint that made the Gustavian period the golden age of Swedish furniture, and the pale blue frame reads beautifully against the fresh linen upholstery. True 18th century Gustavian sofas are increasingly rare survivals, offering the decorative presence of period seating with genuine comfort: at the end of a bed, in an entrance hall, or anchoring a light-filled living room. The frame is sound and the upholstery fresh, ready for immediate use, with wear to the frame consistent with its considerable age.
