A Scandinavian secretary in black paint, in the Baroque manner, built in two parts: an arched bonnet-top cabinet with shaped double doors above a slant-front writing section, over a serpentine base of three drawers dressed in ornate brass rocaille mounts, the whole raised on bracket feet. The fall front opens to a writing surface, and the dark painted case makes the bright hardware read like jewelry across the shaped drawer fronts. Bonnet-top secretaries are the grandest of Scandinavian case forms, combining desk, storage, and architecture in one commanding silhouette for a living room, library, or hall. The paint has mellowed handsomely, with wear consistent with age and use.
