A charming small Tyrolean chest, handcrafted entirely from fir wood, featuring hand painted foliate (ramages) decorations and deeply patinated surfaces. The façade is visually anchored by three framed panels, the central one shaped in a distinctive star or geometric rosette form, surrounding the original keyhole, and giving the piece its striking character. The surface shows traces of early painted decoration, softly worn with time, highlighting the chest’s age and authenticity.
The chest is raised on later added onion shaped feet, which enhance its silhouette while maintaining its rustic charm. Inside, the original structure remains intact, including a small internal lidded compartment often used for storing valuables. All original hardware is present, and of particular note are the forged hinge blades affixing the top lid, exceptional in both form and function. The lock and key are period, though no longer operational.
Compact yet full of personality, this chest is a beautiful example of rural Alpine craftsmanship and folk tradition, perfect as a decorative storage piece, end table, or historical accent in a curated interior.
