Spanish 20th Century Giltwood Sunburst Mirror
This giltwood sunburst mirror was made in Spain around 1920. The design takes the form of a sun, with radiating rays surrounding a central mirror plate, a decorative type with a long history in Spanish and Continental design. The frame is carved in wood and finished in gilt, giving the rays a warm, reflective surface that catches light around the central glass. The sunburst form makes the mirror as much a sculptural wall object as a functional one, its radiating profile creating strong visual interest on a wall. Suited to display above a console, mantel, or chest, or as a standalone feature on an open wall, the mirror works in both traditional and more eclectic interiors.
