A Swedish painted sideboard, circa 1890. The rectangular top has canted front corners and sits above two drawers fitted with round wooden knobs. Below, two doors with framed panels decorated with floral motifs at the corners and diamond-form escutcheons make up the lower façade, flanked by canted and fluted side posts — a refinement characteristic of Swedish late-nineteenth-century cabinetmaking. The sideboard is raised on four slender tapered legs, the angled front legs capped with carved floral capitals. The painted finish is in the soft, light palette traditionally associated with Scandinavian interiors, where pale-toned paints were employed to maximize reflected light during the long winter months. The painted surface shows age-appropriate wear consistent with the date. 49.25"W × 22.25"D × 35.75"H.
