This rococo chair was made in Sweden around 1770 and has been scraped to its original paint and newly upholstered in linen. The rococo style is seen here in the Swedish interpretation, with curved, shaped lines that are lighter and more restrained than the French originals. The frame has been brought back to its original painted surface, preserving the early decoration, while the seat has been recovered in linen for practical use. This balance of an aged painted frame with fresh neutral upholstery is typical of Scandinavian period seating. As a single chair, the piece suits use as an occasional or accent chair at a desk, in a bedroom, or in a corner of a reception room. The aged paint carries a settled, layered surface valued by collectors, and the rococo form works in both period interiors and plainer modern rooms as a decorative seat.
