Swedish Painted Linen Closet with Shelves, Circa 1890
A Swedish painted linen press in solid wood, circa 1890. The tall single-door form opens to reveal multiple interior shelves suited for linen storage, the façade enlivened by subtle carved details and decorative molded motifs. A gently molded cornice provides architectural definition at the crown. Finished in a soft patinated light tone that has developed a graceful aged character over more than a century of use. Proportionally spare and well-resolved, the piece reflects the restrained aesthetic of late nineteenth-century Scandinavian domestic furniture. Sound condition throughout. 36.25"W × 21.25"D × 78"H.
