A period Swedish Rococo chair, made in Stockholm circa 1760 and carefully dry-scraped back to its original paint. Stockholm chairs of this date represent the most sophisticated Swedish work of the era, and surfaces recovered by scraping, removing later overpaint layer by layer to reveal the first, are among the most prized in Scandinavian antiques. The chair displays the shaped crest and curved legs of the Swedish Rococo, softened by 260 years of history visible in its surface. Singles of this quality serve beautifully as accent chairs in a bedroom, study, or hallway, where the painted surface can be appreciated up close. An honest, collectible example with wear consistent with its considerable age.
