A Swedish Rococo painted buffet from Värmland, eighteenth century. The polygonal top sits above a well-organized façade comprising two upper drawers fitted with small brass pulls — the dovetail construction of the drawers attesting to the piece's age — and two lower doors with carved panels opening to inner shelves. The canted side posts carry carved ornament that echoes the door panels, and the sides of the case are fitted with additional drawers, an unusual feature that adds practical utility. The carved base supports the composition. The piece retains its original painted finish in a soft, light color characteristic of the Swedish Rococo interior tradition, with honest distressing consistent with its age. The back is unfinished, as is typical of period Scandinavian case furniture. 62.5"W × 24.5"D × 40.5"H.
